The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design is pleased to invite you to join us for the signing of an MoU between HKIUD and IARKI (The Indonesian Institute of Urban Designers: www.iarki.or.id) to foster future collaborations that benefit members of both institutes. On this occasion, we will be hosting a session, "Shaping Better Cities through Urban Design"
Urban Design shapes better cities by focusing on human-scale, walkability, and community identity to enhance quality of life and resilience. Key strategies include integrating nature, prioritizing pedestrian experience, and using technology for data-driven, adaptive urban solutions. Urban Design is no longer just about aesthetics, but rather a "functional backbone* that influences social behavior, environmental health, and the overall "happiness" of a city's residents.
Core Elements and Key Objectives
· Human-centric Design and Placemaking
· Mobility and Connectivity
· Sustainability and Resilience
The importance of urban design in shaping cities will be emphasized as we discuss the opportunities and challenges encountered in planning, designing, and developing new capital cities and large-scale developments.
Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital, is envisioned as a sustainable, green metropolis, designed to be a purpose-built *10 minute, smart green city" with advanced technology. Currently under construction on the island of Borneo, in East Kalimantan, it is intended to replace Jakarta due to its congestion, sinking land, and pollution.
