HKIUD has launched its a 'Liveable Streets' Manifesto as an outcome document for various research actions across the last decade: -
2016 Betterment of the City;
2018 Actions for Active Ageing;
2020 Wellbeing through Urban Design; and
2023 New Urban Mobility - This included the conference “Healthy Change in the High-Density City” and the workshops “Accessible Streets”, “New Ideas on Roads and Streets” and “Rethinking Hong Kong Streets” supported by a wide range of community stakeholders.
'Liveable Streets' is now released for engagement, whereupon it makes the economic and health cases for more effective utilisation of existing street space in Hong Kong, together with the delivery of high-quality standards for new streets. The objective is to create an efficient, liveable, attractive and healthy public realm, able to successfully compete internationally in attracting and retaining global talent and improve the wellbeing of its citizens. This proposes a new approach to the utilisation, design and stewardship of the city’s streets in line with international best practice.
It is the objective for the Manifesto to be submitted to the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for consideration in the 2025 Policy Address. We now welcome support of the Manifesto from societal organisations interested in the quality of development of our city and in its global competitiveness and invite them to publish their endorsement therein.
