HKIUD hosted the workshop as a lead-in event to their International Urban Design Conference – New Urban Mobility : Healthy Change for the High Density City scheduled for November 2023. Acting as a research event aimed at collecting data to be shared at Conference, the Institute brought together the urban design departments at The University of Hong Kong, City University and Chinese University Hong Kong to collaborate with MIT Innovation Node in exploring inter-modal urban accessibility across five Hong Kong locations.
Fieldwork involved data tracking the decision-making processes of the student groups who were restricted by disability, ageing and luggage handicaps during their journeys. The morning experiential event was supported by a diverse group of invited participants including urban realm decision makers and senior development professionals who explored the difficulties of active ageing through the wearing of simulation suits, which followed up on HKIUD’s previous research work of 2018.
