The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design’s Response on the Consultation Document on Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016: 1. The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD), being one of the professional Institutes in Hong Kong, values the rule of law like the community at large. Therefore, HKIUD respects the Hong Kong SARG’s administration in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law and the future constitutional setup. 2. In discussing the method for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017, HKIUD considers that there is a need for enlarging the Nominating Committee and increasing as far as possible its democratic component and representativeness, and that the Professional disciplines, such as Urban Designers* (Members of the HKIUD), who are not yet included, should be enlisted in the enlarged Nominating Committee. The inclusion of more sectors and Professional disciplines, including HKIUD’s Members, would help the election achieve more extensive representativeness. 3. In discussing the method for forming the Legislative Council in 2016, HKIUD also considers that the Composition and Electorate Base of Functional Constituencies should be enlarged as far as possible and that the Professional disciplines, such as Urban Designers* (Members of the HKIUD ), who are not yet included, should be enlisted in the enlarged Electorate Base. The inclusion of more sectors and Professional disciplines, including HKIUD’s Members, would help the election achieve more extensive representativeness.
