Reprovisioning of a Public Toilet at Pak Shek Kok Promenade, Tai Po District

Project Background
Following the announcement of the <<Smart City Blueprint 2.0>> by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in December 2020, the Pak Shek Kok Public Toilet is the first "smart toilet" with a full set of smart toilet features under the new measures. The Pak Shek Kok Smart Public Toilet (around 300 m2) is located at the 2-kilometre long Pak Shek Kok promenade, in front of a stretch of large residential estates and the Hong Kong Science Park. This is a reprovisioned public toilet arising from the demolition of the Fo Yin Road Public Toilet in 2018 to give way for residential development. The bicycle-themed design of the public toilet echoing with the neighboring popular cycling track, e.g. decorative bicycle wheels hung under the skylight and different generations of bicycle images with annotations displayed at the back of toilet cubicles, etc., making it a popular check-in spot for cyclists’ photo shooting and a resting place en route, as well as providing a quality public toilet service to visitors and surrounding communities. It also brings the development of urban public toilets to a milestone.
